The Salvation Army Derry
As someone who has been in the service industry for over 40 years now, I can say with some level of accuracy, that being a part of the community you serve reaps dividends. It's not just about donations or sponsorships, it's also about volunteerism, being a resource, networking to help others and being an advocate for your community and other businesses within your community.
I am a Board Member for three non-profits in my community, but I also help out when and where needed for the other non-profits in our community. Several years back, pre-COVID, I contacted our local Salvation Army and explained to them my position with SERVPRO, Sales/Marketing Manager. Part of my job is to go out in the community and meet business owners and managers, developing relationships along the way.
They weren't quite sure how to connect the dots, but after some brain storming, we came up with an idea to help them stock their food pantry. They had heavy duty grocery bags imprinted with the Salvation Army logo and a list of non-perishables and toiletries most commonly needed. I took these bags and met up with community business owners and managers, and asked if I could have them leave the bag out for their staff to donate, if they chose to. I would then come by a week or two later to pick them up.
Only one business out of 20 declined, the rest were happy to help. The collection total came out to about 30 bags filled with items for the food pantry, and numerous stories of how the Salvation Army helped them or somebody they knew.
Success! A feeling of doing a good thing for a good organization, and recognition by our community for being a good community supporter.
Legacies

As a Chamber of Commerce Ambassador, one of the services I provide on behalf of the Chamber is to help our members get their Chamber Directory Listing up and fully functional, fully visible. Prior to development with the Member, I perform some basic research on the Company, the Principles and the History of the company.
What I found most interesting was the level of community involvement the founders had, especially when researching businesses that were in their 2nd and 3rd generation of family ownership. They were a fixture in their community and understood the value of organizations that worked to help strengthen the community they resided and conducted business in. In other words, they believed that they not only had a vested interest in their community, but a responsibility as well.
Some of these organizations included The Rotary Club, The Kiwanis Club. their local Church, their local Masonic Lodge, and many were on the Board of these non-profit businesses within their community.
Interestingly enough, many of these companies are thriving into their 3rd Generation. The building blocks were their dedication and commitment to Community, and their legacy is a result of that work.
SERVPRO of Derry/Londonderry also believes in the commitment to Community. We are involved with a number of non-profit organizations and work on Committee's within the Town's we service. We donate time, money and service and are always available to help or advise where and when needed. Commitment, dedication, service for others, all good business traits, but also good for the soul.
Serving Our Community

The Salvation Army
Serving the community that we live and work in makes us a partner with that community. As a partner, we want the best for our community and we want to help it grow and prosper. One of the ways SERVPRO of Derry/Londonderry does this is by offering help and assistance to a number of organizations, one of them being The Salvation Army of Greater Derry.
The Salvation Army of Greater Derry provides a number of services for the Greater Derry area: Worship Services, Emergency/Disaster Service, Christmas Kettle Program, Food Pantry, Nursing Home Visitation & Church Services and After School Programs, just to name a few.
SERVPRO of Derry/Londonderry, in tandem with The Salvation Army of Greater Derry, is distributing shopping bags to businesses and organizations within the Greater Derry community, with a request to collect non-perishable food items and toiletries. These items are then distributed to those in need throughout our community. Certainly a worthy cause.
If you would like to contribute to this program, please contact our office directly for details. Every portion of your donation goes directly to those in need. Your help is greatly appreciated.
