Your Home in Pictures
2/28/2019 (Permalink)
Our homes are typically filled with treasures from our travels, our children's life events, and relics from our past, all irreplaceable. If lost to a fire or water damage, all we can do is cry and hope our memory can relive these past moments without these memento's to shake our memories.
But what of our furnishings, what happens if we lose them to a catastrophic event? While they can be replaced, at what cost and at who's expense? If we have adequate insurance coverage, then the burden is on the insurer to replace any items that can't be restored.
Do you have a complete inventory list of furnishings and other items in your home? One way to make this task easier is through pictures and video's. Having a video library of your homes contents helps fill the gaps in your memory and will ensure that lost items are replaced. Be sure to feature identification marks on finer items such as China and bric-a-brac, and model and serial numbers on other items such as your computer, TV or appliances.
Preparation and pro-active measures help relieve stress and help provide some level of relief when a disastrous event strikes.
Is your home prepared for the winter???

SERVPRO - always on call.
Winter in New England can be brutal. The cold, snow and ice can cause unforeseen damage to your home. Preparing your house for the winter helps to minimize the risk of a loss. Noted below are some basic, self-help tips.
- Shut the water off to your outside spigots from the inside shut-off valve, keeping the spigot open, allowing as much water as possible to drain from the line. Once the line has drained, shut-off the spigot and cover the spigot with an insulated faucet cover.
- Clean out all organic debris from your gutters and downspouts. Even better, install a gutter protection device after cleaning.
- If you have experienced ground water in your basement from snow melt, a slight regrade of this area may help.
- If you have ground or below-ground windows, installing a pent over top of the windows will prevent snow build-up at and water infiltration from snow melt at the window jambs.
- If you have window wells, installing a pent over the window well will help keep snow out of the well, preventing snow melt from seeping through the window jambs.
SERVPRO of Derry/Londonderry is here to help you escape the winter home hazards. Call 603.432.3221 or email chuck@SERVPROderrylondonderry.com for a complimentary home inspection.

Protect Your Pipes !!
Every winter season, the pipes in your business and home are at risk of damage from freezing conditions. Low temperatures can cause your water pipes to freeze, and in some cases burst. The following tips can help you safeguard your home before, during and after a pipe freezes.
PREVENT YOUR PIPES FROM FREEZING
- Disconnect all gardening hoses and install covers on all outside faucets.
- Keep your house temperature at 68 degrees or higher, even if you're leaving the house for an extended period of time.
- Open cabinet doors below sinks to allow heat from the home to circulate.
- Identify the location of the main water valve and the valve on your water heater. (Learning the location of these valves may come in handy during an emergency.:
- Wrap pipes nearest exterior walls and in crawl spaces with pipe insulation or with heating tape. This can prevent freezing, especially for interior pipes that run along outside walls.
- Close all windows near water pipes; cover or close open-air vents. Freezing temperatures combined with wind drafts can cause pipes to freeze more frequently.
- Heat your basement and consider weather sealing your windows.
- Insulate outside walls and unheated areas of your home.
- If you plan to be away from home for an extended period of time, shut off water supply valves to your washing machine.
IF YOUR PIPES STILL FREEZE AND BURST, CALL SERVPRO of Derry/Londonderry at 603-432-3221 AND YOUR INSURANCE AGENT FOR IMMEDIATE ASSISTANCE!!
